What we publish
Every statement about a state, product, manufacturer, or utility is one of three things: what a bill or statute says, what UL Solutions or a manufacturer's own document says, or a price or availability seen on a named page on a named date. Each carries a link and a checked date. We do not label anything legal, illegal, allowed, banned, safe, compliant, best, or worst, and we do not tell you whether you may connect a system in your home. Where you would want a judgment we cannot make, we link the source so you can read it.
How we check
The state data is reviewed by hand. About once a week, the bookmarked bill pages for states with movement are opened, the data is updated, and UL Solutions' directory is checked. When a governor is expected to sign or veto a bill, that state is checked more often. Each change is committed and the site is redeployed.
Sources
State status comes from legislature and statute pages, linked in each row of the state table and on each state page. Certification terms come from the state text and from UL Solutions. Product entries, when present, come from the manufacturer's own page.
Corrections
If a manufacturer, retailer, official or reader believes anything on this site is inaccurate, email [email protected] with the page and the correction. We aim to review reported errors within 48 hours and promptly correct verified inaccuracies, noting the change on the page.
